  • Back to TAIWAN

After 26 plus 1 days, I finally come back from England. I spent 3 weeks in shebbear, met lots of nice people, Fran, Jonny, Ricky, Adam, Brooke, other staffs and other team leaders. The most funnest guys in the world are the three who are quite interested in Paul's college (NMWU). I really enjoy the time with them there.

Then we went to London for two days. The trip was different from other trips I've ever been to cuz this time we let the kids lead us to every places. It took us more time to get to our destination and more energy to take care of the kids, but I thought it was fun and it was a good experience for the students, too.

By the time our flight got to the top of HK airport, the pilot told us some bad news that because of the typhoon nearby HK, all of the planes couldn't arrive, neither departure. So after about an hour or longer hovered over the airport, our flight flew to Manila, the last place I would go to in the world. More than five hundred flights were affected by the weather in HK and lots of the flights went to Manila like ours. Fortunately we were arranged to stay in a hotel in manila very quickly, not like other 3000 poor passengers stayed one night in HK airport. On Friday morning, we took a bus to manila airport and got to HK in the afternoon. Our flight changed from 6 to 7, then to 8 pm, and the gate changed several times too. I was so glad that our kids didn't really complained about all these, they even wanted to stay another night in HK (so did I). We finally got back to Taiwan after 11pm, but there was another big problem we were facing... where is our luggage? No one really knew the answer. So after filling some forms about our missing luggage, Iain and I took four kids back to Taipei. By the time it was 3 am. We spent more than 14 hours in the airports that day.

This was such a special experience for us, isn't it?!

  • in the middle of NoWhere

It's been quite a long time from my last update.

I'm in camp now with Iain, Paul, and 32 "lovely" kids. About five or six of them have joined our camp in ¥Ã¼Ö, and they still remember their teachers, Samuel, Dan and Joel. This is the third week here and  after this week we'll go to London. We are in a place called Shebbear in devon, south England. This is a tiny little village which couldnt be found on the map, and  with only one shop plus post office inside, a bar, and a garage. What we do for the whole day is probably counting the sheep and cows, oh... and have a cup of english tea by the way. We stay in Shebbear college( which has the same pronounciation as »¹ÀŤF in Chinese), it's a quite special boarding school, it's really small but the view here is gorgeous and the air is fresh.

I still remember the first day we arrived in England, I couldn't get used to the English accent. It was difficult to talk to the bus driver who came to pick us up that day. But after two weeks talking with the staffs here in the camp, it's getting better now.

To be honest, the camp is not as good as the ones we have in Taiwan, most of the staff here are inexperienced, so is their leader. Sometimes we have the kind of feeling that they are not so organized in dealing with things. But the staff here are all nice guys and working hard in classes.

On the campus here are Taiwanese, Franch, Spanish, and one Russian, two Japanese students. Most of  the teachers are from England and one is Australian. I think it will be better if the nationalities are more. Our boys are really cool, they beat the other students in playing basketball and baseball. But when it comes to football, they suck. There are different activities every evening, the most impressive ones are disco nights. The foreign students are all quite good in dressing up and dance. Our kids are not like that, they were shy and without such experiences for the first time. But they are quick learners. They are all really good now .

It's hard to say I like this place or not, but our work here is easy and simple.

well, thats all what I can think of rite now.

  • Since I still don't want to go to bed right now, let's talk about

my visit to the big Apple

I went to NYC on April 9 and when we arrived there it was already 8 pm. We walked around the famous Time Square for a little while then back to our hotel, which was not very good but people working there were nice. The next day, we went to the Taipei Economic and Cultural office in New York. It was a new building our government just spent lots of money to buy and redecorate it. The first thing I did inside was very interesting... taking picture with our country's national flag(in Taiwan I probably wont do that). After a small press conference and saying hello to the managers there, oh and also sit on a very expensive chair, I went back to our hotel and changed very soon then started the SITE SEEING Part I.

Cuz we have Jean and Sandy two smart girl, who planed the schedule the night before, so we could start right away. The first station was the World Trade Center( they are rebuilding it). I noticed a sign there said " People who ever visit there should not purchase any item from the vendors, in order to maintain the site as a special place."

Then we took the subway to the Battery Park, and visited the statue of liberty from very very far away. Atter that we went to another famous site for visitors...the Wall street. The impression on the subway station of wall st. was not very good, it was dark, old and gruesome. As being a tourist, we wanted to see every popular place in NY especially those showed up in moves. There was a church called Trinity Church on the street and we heard it was the one in National Treasure, so we went inside for a short visit. Then we saw lots of securities outside of a building, and the first thing came up to me was "Is there someone important inside? " the answer was no, it was the New York Stock Exchange. The guide from a travel agency said there are four gods in NYC, one is god of love, one is the god of wealth...the golden ox. So we took a picture with it and hope it will bring wealth.

Then we went to Soho. The only thing I can say is the house there all look the same, just with different colors, that's weird! Another weird thing happened on that day was no matter where we went, we would confront with a large group of people who yelled for racial equality in spanish. And most important of all, once they appear, the street and subway would be closed by the NYPD, and no one could get through. That was very annoying.

The last stop for that day was the Empire Building. Then we were toooo tired and went back to our hotel. Everyone was surprised at our site seeing schedule. And we planed to ask Jean to publish a guidebook for visitors in NYC.

    To be continued...

  • We are the champion!

This weekend is one of the big days in my school...the school games day. My department always take this day seriously, so every year we assign many athletes to join each games. Though we are playing it just for fun, we still want to win some of the games. But sadly, we always lost in games like relay race and tug of war, and we always lost to the department of medicine. They train their players for 7 years and maybe they use some...to win the games.

But it's totally different this time. We beat them in the boy's relay race, and win by 9 sec. We also beat them in the boy's tug of war, 2-0.
I join the girl's tug of war and we win, too. hahahahaha........

It's the first gold medal I get in the past three years, I'm soooooo happy!

    Civil Engineering is the BEST!
